RG405 is a widely used semi-rigid 50Ω coaxial cable for high-frequency RF testing and internal equipment wiring. This overview covers its physical specs, electrical performance, environmental adaptability and selection rules.

Center Conductor: Solid silver-plated copper clad steel, 0.51mm diameter.

Dielectric Insulation: Solid PTFE, thickness 1.68mm for stable dielectric constant.

Outer Jacket: FEP/PVC, 2.65–3.23mm thick.

II. Electrical Performance

Characteristic Impedance: 50 Ohm ±2Ω, matched for RF microwave systems.

Attenuation: Low high-frequency loss; ~0.75dB/m@1GHz, ~3.57dB/m@18GHz, max operating frequency up to 40GHz.

Insertion Loss: Ultra-low insertion loss maintains signal integrity at mmWave bands.

VSWR: Max 1.1:1 below 5GHz, ≤1.3:1 up to 20GHz for excellent impedance matching.

Shielding Effectiveness: ≥90dB from 100MHz–18GHz, eliminates EMI/RFI leakage.

Operating Temperature: -55℃ to +125℃ (FEP jacket version up to 165℃).

Protection Level: FEP/PVC jacket resists moisture, oil and abrasion.

IV. Selection Guidelines

Application Requirements: For fixed internal device wiring, semi-rigid solid tube RG405 is preferred; flexible braided RG405 for short test jumpers. Fits DC–40GHz short-distance transmission.

Matching Connectors: 1.85mm, 2.4mm, SMA high-frequency connectors are standard.

Electrical Verification: Confirm attenuation, VSWR and shielding for millimeter-wave test systems.

Environmental Suitability: Choose FEP jacket for high-temperature cabinet environments.
