Broadband refers to a communication system that transmits information over a single channel (such as cable, DSL, ISDN, and company LAN). Because cable television operators are well prepared to provide high-speed Internet access and other Internet Protocol (IP) services for businesses and consumers, they are transforming from entertainment companies to complete communications providers. With the convergence of wired and wireless data access, the demand for broadband connections for data and video transmission in the home continues to grow exponentially.
