SMA and SMB connectors are both types of RF (radio frequency) connectors, but they are not compatible with each other and have different characteristics and interface.
SMA (SubMiniature version A) connectors have a 1/4-inch diameter, 36-thread-per-inch threaded interface screw-type coupling mechanism and a 50 Ohm impedance. They are typically used in radio frequency and microwave applications, and are known for their durability and reliability. SMA connectors are built in accordance with MIL-STD-348 interface which latest version is MIL-STD-348B and IEC 60169-15. Besides conforming to the interface,SMA connectors operate up to 18 GHz, but in order to respond to the growth of the communication system, there is an extended version that operates up to 26.5 GHz for higher frequency applications.

SMB (SubMiniature version B) connectors have a push-on (snap-on) type of coupling mechanism and a 50 Ohm impedance. They are also used in RF applications, but are not as durable or reliable as SMA connectors. They are less expensive than SMA connectors and are often used in lower power applications. They feature a snap-on coupling and are available in 50 Ω impedance. They offer excellent electrical performance from DC to 4 GHz,extended performance up to 10GHz. SMB connectors conform to the requirements of MIL-C-39012, and the interface is in compliance with MIL-STD-348 and IEC60169-10. The popular automobile connector - FAKRA used SMB connector as a core with plastic housing.
